Product FAQ

Where can Whiskey River gas log sets be installed?

  • In masonry fireplaces
  • Fireboxes approved for vent-free gas logs
  • Fireplaces approved for vented gas logs

Where can Whiskey River gas log sets NOT be installed?

  • As replacement logs for a direct vent fireplace or insert.
  • Any fireplace not approved for vent-free gas logs
  • On top of any burner system that is not designed for them
  • In cities or municipalities that do not allow vent-free gas logs. If unsure, check with your local building department.

What is a Contour Burner?

  • It's a burner system designed specifically for the White Mountain Hearth Flint Hill and Whiskey River gas logs only
  • Includes glowing embers that give the illusion of a smoldering ember bed

What are the different burner types and control options?

Controls can be confusing! Your Contour burner system offers 3 different control options. (Images are for illustration purposes. Actual unit design may vary)

MANUAL BURNER HI-LOW-MED KNOB

  • has a standing pilot (meaning the pilot remains lit when the unit is on or in "pilot" position)
  • is not remote control compatible
  • does not require a match to light
  • adjust the height of the flame by turning the knob

MANUAL VALVE WITH THERMOSTAT AND HI/LOW KNOB (NO REMOTE)

  • has a standing pilot
  • is designed to maintain the temperature of the room
  • is not remote compatible
  • does not require a match to light
  • turn the knob to set the desired temperature
  • unit will come on an off by itself to maintain the temperature.

MILLIVOLT BURNER WITH ON/OFF SWITCH AND THERMOSTAT REMOTE

  • has a standing pilot (meaning the pilot remains lit when the unit is on or in "pilot" position)
  • has an on/off/remote switch
  • can be operated by remote control or at the unit
  • does not require a match to light
  • has a knob to adjust the height of the flame
  • thermostat remote will allow you to set the temperature of the logs. Many times, we are asked what is the difference between the Manual Valve with Thermostat and Hi/Lo knob and this Millivolt burner with on/off switch and thermostat remote. The main differences are this valve system will:
  • allow you to attach a remote control
  • allow you to turn off the unit and keep your pilot lit
  • allow you to set the temperature from the remote control. You can override the temperature setting and have the unit either on or off.

How do I select the right size gas log?

Figuring out the right size gas logs for your fireplace is as easy.

  1. Measure the inside of your fireplace. Use this helpful measuring guide located in our Gas Log Learning Center
  2. Select your control system
  1. Select the proper sized logs based on your measurements and desired control system
  2. Place your order!

Can I put these logs on my existing burner?

Only if you are placing these logs on the exact burner designed for them.

Should I buy the same size logs I already have?

We recommend you measure the inside of your fireplace and base your purchasing decision on the your fireplace measurements instead of measuring your existing gas logs. The reason? Because gas logs and burner systems may have different sizing requirements. In one style, you may need an 18" and in another style you may be able to fit a 24" inside of the same fireplace.

Why does the price seem to "jump" up after I select the Burner and Control System?

Your burner and control system is a complete hearth kit. It includes the burner pan, grate, sand/vermiculite (if needed), embers (if included), valve, and control system

I am still confused. LOL
